How employees register hours

The two ways of registering time in Staffly — manually or by clocking in and out — and how employees do it in the app and the employee portal.

Last updated 8 August 2026

Staffly has two ways of registering time. It is chosen per order, so you can use one at one customer and the other somewhere else.

Manual (start and end time)

The employee types the times in afterwards. It is the classic timesheet, and it is the default because it works everywhere — including when the employee never has their phone out during the day.

Clocking (in/out)

The employee clocks in and out, and the times are recorded by the server. See Clocking in and out.

Where the employee does it

Place Typically used by
The Staffly app Employees on the move
The employee portal Anyone with a browser

Both show the same hours.

After registration

Hours have to be approved before they can be invoiced or included in a payroll run. By default it is the customer who approves them in the customer portal — unless you have turned on Auto-approve hours on the order. See Approve hours and the accounting lock.
